The significance and power of God’s word

I came across the following video some time ago – and am brought to tears every time I watch it… these people, however primitive they may seem to us “enlightened” Americans, are teaching us a very valuable lesson!  About 9 minutes, but worth every one!

Persecution and Martyrdom are NOT a thing of the past…

Pray for this dear brother and his family… that they will endure for the sake of the Lord Jesus, and show His love and mercy no matter where they are taken.  They are filling up what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ!

Mexico: Pastor Abducted in Church

Mexico’s rampant drug violence spilled over into the evangelical community in April when a pastor was kidnapped during Sunday morning worship. Four masked men burst into the El Shaddai Christian Center in Lázaro Cárdenas on the morning of April 10 and opened fire with automatic weapons. They then kidnapped the pastor, Josué Ramírez Santiago, in front of 500 helpless worshipers. The kidnappers are thought to be drug traffickers who are active in the Michoacán area.

The following day, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 20 million pesos, or $1.8 million, from the pastor’s family. Even if the family could pay the enormous sum, it would not necessarily guarantee the pastor’s safety.

Arturo Farela, director of the National Fraternity of Evangelical Churches, told Compass Direct News that organized crime syndicates and drug cartels have targeted Christians because they view churches as revenue centers and because churches support programs for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and alcoholics.

Farela said more than 100 pastors have been kidnapped and 15 murdered in recent years. “Furthermore,” he said, “some 100 Mexican or foreign pastors who lived in Ciudad Juarez have had to abandon the city because of the threats and demands for money. And of course many pastors and their families have been victims of extortion, threats, kidnapping and homicide.” Compass Direct was unable to verify the number of kidnapped and murdered pastors.

A great prayer resource – Courtesy of National Geographic!

I just got our latest copy of National Geographic in the mail (a gift from my parents… thanks Mom and Dad!)…

Inside was one of those nifty map-things they put in periodically that went along with one of their main articles – regarding the earth’s population hitting 7 billion in 2011.  Anyway, the map struck me as a great resource to use in praying for the world…

Here they are… you can get full-size copies by clicking on each image!

The Gospel is Winning! – Christian Growth in History

I recently found this on the www.missionfrontiers.org website – and it shows a very encouraging fact!    I’ll let them explain the chart in their own words…

In 100 AD there were an estimated 360 non-Christians for every Christian. Today there are only 6.8 non-Christians (Those who do not claim to be Christian) for every evangelical Christian.God’s initiative since AD 100 displays determined and increasing activity to build His Church. Note: It took 18 centuries for evangelicals to go from 0% of the world population to 2.5% in 1900, only 70 years to go from 2.5% to 5% in 1970, and just the last 22 years to go from 5% to 10% of the world population. What this means is that now, for the first time in history, there is one evangelical for every 9 non-evangelicals world-wide.

According to Dr. Ralph Winter of the US Center for World Mission, “Despite the rapid increase in world population, the number of faithful Bible-believing Christians is increasing faster than any other large movement or religion. It is doubling every ten and a half years.”

This does not mean, however, that the missionary task of Christianity is over. The U.S. Center for World Mission in Pasadena, CA estimates that there are still 11,000 ethnic groups (people groups), such as the Kurds, that are largely untouched by the Gospel.
